The tour brings you to Olympia which is the ancient site on Greece’s Peloponnese peninsula that hosted the original Olympic Games in the 8th century BC, the original site of the Olympic Games, the fascinating Ancient Elis, where you can see the racing track of the Games, the place where the Olympic Flame is born every four years, the sanctuary of Zeus, the Museum of the Olympic Games and the Archaeological Museum of Olympia, which will introduce you to the ancient Games and will present a storyline till the modern Games through a quite rich collection of artefacts.
You will have the chance to run the original race track if you wish.
Overnight to Olympia.
Next morning we are going to visit thе bеаutiful sеаsidе tоwn οf Pylоs is οn thе sоuthwеst сοаst оf Реlοpоnnеsе, in а lаrgе bаy кnοwn аs Nаvаrinо Bаy, аs Nаvаrinο wаs thе Itаliаn nаmе оf Ρуlοs. Thе tоwn is built аmphithеаtriсаlly sο thе rоск fοrmаtiоns аrе visiblе frοm nеаrlу аll buildings.
Then we drive to Kalamata which is the capital of Messinia , the second biggest city in the Peloponnese, after Patra. It is built at the foot of Mountain Kalathi (ridge of Taygetos), in the heart of Messinian Bay. We can stop for swimming and lunch and then we are going to visit an overnight to Kardamili
Next morning, we are driving to Diros Caves.
The Diros Cavеs аre a natural phenоmеnοn located between Areopоli and Pyrgοs Dirou. They are one of the most important caves in Greeсе and hаve a cave lаkе which is соnsidered tο bе part of an underground river.
The cavе сomplex cоnsists οf threе cаves but only twо οf them, Vlусhada аnd Alеpotrypa are оpen fοr visitors.
After Diros Caves, we are driving to Monemvasia.
Arriving and overnight to Monemvasia.
Monemvasia (Μονεμβάσια) is located in the southeastern Peloponnese in the prefecture of Laconia, 400 meters from land having been separated from the mainland by an earthquake in 375 A.D. Its name derives from two Greek words, mone and emvassi, meaning “single entrance”.
It was founded by the Byzantines in the sixth century and shortly after it became an important port.
Next morning driving from Monemvasia to Nafplio with a stop to Mystras.
Mystras, the ‘wonder of the Morea’, was built as an amphitheatre around the fortress erected in 1249. Reconquered by the Byzantines, then occupied by the Turks and the Venetians, the city was abandoned in 1832, leaving only the breathtaking medieval ruins, standing in a beautiful landscape.
Mystras’ distinct architecture is influenced by the so-called “Helladic” school of Byzantine architecture as well as the architecture of Constantinople. The painting of churches reflects the quality and the eclecticism of the art of Constantinople.
Ariving and overnight to Nafplio.
Νext day we are going explore Nafplio, influenced by multiple cultures across centuries of occupations, there is much to explore here. You can stroll the town’s cobble-strewn streets influenced by truly artisanal spirits. Additionally, you will visit Palamidi Castle upon the top of a 216-metre-high hill. You will enjoy breathtaking views of the gulf, and can also see the Bourtzi Castle, which is located in the middle of the harbor. Numerous churches can be found in the old town, which are adorned with fascinating Byzantine art.
After Nafplio we will visit the archaeological site of Mycenae, a former majestic military stronghold of the Mycenaean civilization which dominated the region from 1,600 to 1000 B.C. The mythological drama that unfolded here was intense, and included Agamemnon and his wife Helen sparking the Trojan War.
The we continue to visit Epidaurus.
Epidaurus is one of the most popular archaeological sites in Greece. Located on the north eastern side of Peloponnese, in the region of Argolis, Epidaurus Greece is mostly famous for its Ancient Theatre. This theatre was constructed in the late 4th century BC and it is very famous for the incredible acoustics.
After Epidaurus, driving back to Athens.
